
Help us welcome visitors, support programs, and spark meaningful conversations about the South – past, present, and future.
What you’ll do:
- Greet guests and support check-in/registration at programs and community events
- Offer friendly wayfinding and answer general exhibition questions
- Assist with light facilitation at select programs like Community Conversations and youth workshops
- Help with simple set-up/breakdown and audience surveys
- (Optional) Pitch in on special projects like research or collections support when available
Your commitment:
- Minimum: 1 shift per quarter (3-4 hours each)
- Total: At least 4 shifts across the year
- Scheduling: Sign up for dates that fit your calendar via our online portal (reminders included)
- Training: Orientation + role-specific shadowing provided

How it works
- Apply – Tell us about your interests and availability
- Attend Orientation – A 60-minute intro to the museum and your role
- Shadow a Shift – Learn alongside staff or a lead volunteer
- Serve – Pick your shifts each quarter and jump in
Timeline
- Recruitment period: August – September 2025
- Program duration: October 2025 – June 2026
- Backup pool: We maintain 5 alternates in case of last-minute conflicts
Communication & support
- Monthly email updates with event reminders, museum news, and volunteer spotlights
- Quarterly check-ins with the volunteer coordinator for feedback and support
