
Submission Guidelines — Deeply Rooted Student Art Showcase
Opening Reception: & Exhibition Viewing: February 19 | 6:00–7:30 PM
Location: The VAPA Center, 700 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202
Deeply Rooted
A youth art exhibition celebrating the stories, legacy, and cultural impact of Charlotte’s Black community. Students are encouraged to explore the people, places, and moments that have shaped the city’s past and continue to influence its future. Artwork may reflect neighborhood histories, family narratives, influential community figures, or personal connections to Charlotte’s Black history.
Who Can Participate:
- Middle and high school students
- Each student may submit one artwork for consideration
Artwork Requirements
- Medium:
- Drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, digital art, or printmaking
- Size Restrictions:
- Maximum size: 24 x 36 inches
- Presentation:
- All works must be ready to hang (matted, or framed) If working on canvas, edges must be painted
- Label (taped to back): This can be typed or handwritten
- Student name
- Grade
- School
- Teacher name & email
- Artwork title
- Medium
Submission Limit and Selection
- Artists should work with their teacher to submit a clear photo of the completed artwork by February 6
- Museum staff will review all submissions and select works that will best reflect the Deeply Rooted theme.
- The artists will be notified of selected works by February 10th.
Drop-Off & Pickup-Up Instructions
Drop-Off Dates:
- February 13 –17th, 2026 12-5 pm
- Location: The VAPA Center Front Desk
Pick-Up Dates:
- February 23–25, 2026 12-5 pm at VAPA Center Front Desk
- All artworks must be collected by the student, parent, teacher or school representative.
Stipends
Three student artists will be selected to receive $100 art stipends, announced during the opening reception.
Permissions
By submitting artwork, students and their parent/guardian grant permission for works to be photographed and used on museum platforms, promotional materials, and social media.
