As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, communities across the country are reflecting on the nation’s past and considering what comes next. Some are expressing pride in the nation’s milestone, while others express much lower enthusiasm, viewing the American dream as increasingly unattainable.
Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers have different perspectives when it comes to seeking change – but what can we learn from one another?
Join us for a Community Conversation where we will explore “We the People” and how American democracy has both expanded and contracted over time.
Whether you’re passionate about voting, organizing, advocacy, community building, or simply curious about how to make a difference, this conversation is for you.
We will discuss how the meaning of “the people” changes over time and place, and how historical insights can guide us in envisioning the next 250 years.
Questions We’ll Explore:
- What should civic participation be? What has history shown to be successful?
- Is the modern method of “cancel culture” an effective form of civic action? Is “cancel culture” a real strategy?
- When it comes to voting rights, civic participation, and strengthening democratic institutions – what hopes do we hold for future generations?
Come with an open mind to listen to different perspectives, share ideas, and collaborate. Leave equipped with tools and resources to engage with civic organizations including the Freedom Center, Hispanic Federation and others.
