Taste of the New South 2019
March 6, 2019
Levine Museum of the New South invites you to partner with us on the expansion of our annual fund raising event, Taste of the New South. A welcoming, come-as-you-are event, Taste of the New South has long been one of Charlotte’s favorite annual fundraisers, attracting a diverse crowd from all parts of the city. Now, we’re moving the event to a larger venue and pairing the festivities with a very special talk by a remarkable young leader.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, acclaimed filmmaker, and immigration advocate Jose Antonio Vargas will headline Taste 2019 at the Fillmore. In his new book, Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen, Vargas dispels common misconceptions and false perceptions of the immigration process and the millions of people who consider themselves Americans without papers. Vargas is known as a riveting and highly entertaining presenter.
With a great speaker and delicious food, Taste 2019 promises to be a compelling, thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable evening!
2019 Taste Speaker: Jose Antonio Vargas
Jose Antonio Vargas takes audiences deeper into his story, sharing details of his journey to America from the Philippines as a child; his journey through America as an immigration reform activist; and his journey inward as he re-connects with his mother, whom he hadn’t seen in person in over 20 years. With anecdotes from both his own story and the struggles of countless other undocumented immigrants in America, Vargas poignantly explores one of the most divisive questions facing our country today: how do you define “American”?
