New South for the New Southerner: LGBTQ Charlotte

  • Levine Museum of the New South 200 E. Seventh Street Charlotte United States (map)
New south August 6 event (00000007).jpg

Josh Burford made his mark here in 2014 curating the exhibit "LGBTQ Charlotte” at Levine Museum. Now he leads the Invisible Histories Project collecting lesbian and gay history materials for archives. NBC News just named him to its #Pride50 list of influential LGBTQ Americans.

He’s back in Charlotte this month to co-lead an oral history project — and he’ll invite some history-makers to join us at Levine Museum: philanthropist Wesley Mancini, Latina cultural consultant Gina Esquivel, and Charlotte Black Gay Pride co-founder Jermaine Nakia Lee.

Hosted by Dr. Tom Hanchett, Historian-in-Residence with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.

Tickets are $15 for non-members (25% discount for members - become a member here) and includes program, dinner and a cash bar. Doors open at 5:30 PM.

Space is limited, reservations required.
