Queen City Brews: Birdsong Brewing
Our exploration of Charlotte area breweries continues with Birdsong Brewing. Have you purchased your tickets to New South for the New Southerner: Queen City Brews? http://bit.ly/QueenCityBrews
Next up: Birdsong Brewing Co.
How did Birdsong Brewing begin?
Birdsong initially started from a love of good beer and good people. Before we even thought this could be pulled off, our brewer would share his homebrews with our partners in exchange for fresh eggs from their chicken coop. After a while, I guess, the idea struck them to get some friends together and make this a reality. And now, here we are! It was (and still is) a lot of hard work, but it's totally worth it. Everything comes full circle.
What sets Birdsong Brewing apart from other breweries in Charlotte?
At Birdsong, we brew unfiltered beer which, I believe, is different from most other breweries around town. In terms of our tap room environment, we're a TV-free zone. We rely on conversation between our staff and our patrons, so that's pretty important to us. You might not be able to watch the game here, but you'll leave our tap room having more friends than you came in with. That's a cool trade off.
What advice would you give to non-beer drinkers interested in trying craft beer?
Don't be afraid to try something new! The beer spectrum has something for everyone-- it's just a matter of finding what you like! Every style has particular nuances that make it unique from others. The more you try different styles, the better you can identify what you do or do not like.
How can Charlotteans learn more about Birdsong Brewing?
Just come down to our tap room! We love to talk. Seriously, we can talk about Birdsong and beer and Charlotte and beer all day long. You'll find really knowledgeable and friendly people behind the bar or sitting at the bar. You can even ask some of our patrons about Birdsong. When you're here, you're part of our weird little family so, eventually, you'll probably end up knowing more about us than you want to!
