Share your voice and perspectives on what it means to be Afro-Latino today in a roundtable-style program where the audience leads the way. Facilitated by community leaders Jermaine Nakia Lee and Ailen Arreaza.\nCommunity Conversations is designed for an audience of forward-facing problem solvers and individuals who want to create change in their community. It encourages round-table dialogue amongst attendees and guest panelists, prompted by conversation starters aligned with the evening’s theme. This series explores themes of interest to local communities and creates space for intentional conversations that enlighten and spark change.\n\n \nÚnase al Levine Museum of the New South en un diálogo sobre las experiencias de la comunidad afrolatina. He is a professional songwriter, playwright, stage director and producer but his most important job is Dad to 15 and 9-year-old boys. Jermaine is the co-founder of Charlotte Black Pride, 2017 recipient of the City of Charlotte’s Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. Medallion Award, 2017 Grand Marshall of Charlotte Pride Parade, and the 2022 Person of the Year by QNotes Magazine of the LGBTQ+ Carolinas.\n \nAilen Arreaza is the Executive Director of ParentsTogether, a national nonprofit parent’s organization that channels the love parents have for their children into a powerful force for advocacy and political change. In her spare time, she likes to run, host dinner parties, see live music, and write poetry (in English and Spanish). An avid reader and lover of libraries, she serves on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board of Trustees. Ailen lives in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood with her husband, two sons, and her mom. She is a native of Havana, Cuba.\n
