DESCRIPTION:Presented by Levine Museum of the New South and the Latin American Coalition, our annual Festival Día de Muertos celebration took place on Saturday, November 4th. Day of the Dead is a local, intimate recreation of the Mexican Day of the Dead tradition. This colorful and vibrant event is held at Camp North End and featured traditional foods, folkloric arts and crafts, community altars, traditional dances, and fun activities for children. Our 2023 festival was our largest yet, with 10,000 guests in attendance.\nSave the date for our next celebration on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024.\n \nThe lineup this year included:\nAltar Exhibition: Altars, or ofrendas, are an essential element of Dia de Muertos, where families honor and remember their loved ones with offerings of their favorite foods, drinks, and mementos. \nFace Painting: Participants chose from various traditional and creative designs while immersing themselves in the spirit of Dia de Muertos with intricate and colorful skull designs. \nFolkloric Dancing & Live Mariachi Music: Experience the beauty and grace of traditional Mexican folkloric dancing and the melodies of live Mariachi music. \nMexican Cuisine: Savor the flavors of Mexico with a delectable array of dishes, including pan de Muertos, a sweet and symbolic bread, pozole, a hearty hominy stew, and mouthwatering tamales and tacos.\nMovie Screening: Enjoy a bilingual screening of the Disney & Pixars animated movie “Coco” in Spanish and English.\nFamily-Friendly Fun: This family-friendly event will feature activities and entertainment suitable for all ages.
