Vanishing Victorians

Now on display at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Main Branch, 310 N. Tryon Street, Vanishing Victorians was first created and exhibited by Levine Museum in 2002.  The exhibit features work by photographer Dennis Nodine. Assisted by Charlotte native Ladd May, Nodine produced copy photos of Victorian homes found in the book Art Work of Charlotte published in 1905, and then visited the locations of the former Victorian homes to photograph what is in their place today. The old and new photographs are displayed through a sliding frame, allowing viewers to see the Victorian era in Charlotte in 1905, contrasted with today’s contemporary landscape.
