We're Still Here: American Indians in the South
This new exhibit features 50 large, black and white images of Southern American Indians by award-winning Charlotte photographer Carolyn DeMeritt with text by author Frye Gaillard.

DeMeritt's photos first appeared in the book she and Gaillard created, As Long As the Waters Flow. Described by Dee Brown, "Frye Gaillard in words and Carolyn DeMeritt with images have filled a broad gap in our knowledge of tribes in the southern and eastern United States, past and present."

The exhibit portrays Cherokees, Creeks, Choctaws, Chickasaws, Seminoles, Catawbas, Lumbees and others. In addition to the images, We're Still Here will include artifacts from area Native American groups.
