Nora L. Rubel from University of Rochester speaks on "Too Jewish? Imagining the Ultra-Orthodox and America"
Held at Levine Museum of the New South There's a new stream of books and films written and directed by American Jews featuring ultra-Orthodox (also known as haredi) characters and themes. Is a culture war brewing: practitioners of liberal branches of Judaism versus those of traditionalist Judaism? What anxieties play out in these novels and movies – conflicts over gender and religious authority, fear of rea1 or imagined growing power of the Orthodox over contemporary American Judaism?

Nora L. Rubel from University of Rochester speaks to the question "Too Jewish? Imagining the Ultra-Orthodox and America."

Free to attend. Offered in partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.
