We Are What We Sing: Music and Cultural Identity
Sunday, November 8
3:00 p.m.
Presented in partnership with the Charlotte Symphony
As part of the ongoing Changing Places project, "We Are What We Sing" explores how music expresses who we are and where we're from. Performances, demonstrations, and discussions will highlight music of China, Peru and tribal groups of the Amazon and the local Catawba.

Leading participants in "We Are What We Sing" are newcomers to Charlotte who have brought elements of their native cultures to their new home: Dr. Richard Chacon, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Winthrop University, from Costa Rica; Ning Zhao, Charlotte Symphony violist, from China; Julio Jeri, CPCC student and flutist, from Peru. Other performers include the CPCC Early Music Ensemble, musicians of the Charlotte Symphony, and the Piedmont Open Middle School chorus.

Presented jointly by the Museum and the Charlotte Symphony. Free to attend. For more info on "We Are What We Sing" or the Symphony's Orchestra on Campus events, contact Meg Whalen at 704.714.5114 or visit www.charlottesymphony.org
